Energy

TMCO delivers smart, efficient energy engineering solutions that reduce operational costs and support compliance across Australia and New Zealand.

Energy in buildings and Building
Modelling and Simulation.

As energy costs increase prudency in energy usage is paramount to running an efficient business. All of this is based around good building services design right from the building orientation and the thermal envelope to the actual mechanical, electrical and hydraulic services and just as critically, their control system utilised within the building.

Building Modelling and Simulation

Thermal modelling for integrated design of services and thermal envelope. Using both dynamic and static modelling software, we offer design analysis across residential, commercial and industrial applications:

  • Overheating risk analysis
  • Solar PV performance design
  • CFD analysis and energy efficiency analysis
  • HVAC loads analysis
  • Green Star greenhouse gas modelling
  • NatHERS thermal comfort modelling
  • NCC Section J reports and JV3 verification
  • Wind modelling at macro and micro scale

For existing buildings

We specialise in robust and effective engineering systems that will improve your asset and provide significantly lower energy costs with realistic payback periods. We can assess the systems in place and give options on energy savings. These might include:

  • Installing new/alternative plant Especially for domestic hot water heating in high use applications (e.g. adding a large heat pump to the existing boiler setup in a hotel)
  • Alterations to the way the building is managed
  • Changes to plant room configurations For when the current setup is not ideal
  • Reviewing and improving power and gas supplies, their tariffs and setups

For new buildings

We specialise in robust and effective engineering systems that will improve your asset and provide significantly lower energy costs with realistic payback periods. We can assess the systems in place and give options on energy savings. These might include:

Providing options for space and water heating and cooling, ventilation, controls and electrical

Including the pros and cons, capital and running costs, available efficiency funding and payback period comparisons for each option.

This lets you make an informed decision with no nasty surprises.

Designing these systems for optimal layouts and efficient use of space

Part of this includes 3D modelling using Revit and ArchiCAD.

This gives you a huge advantage as we are modelling within the architect’s actual model.

We are proficient in energy, and prudent in striking the right balance between efficient systems and capital outlay for the client.

Our team members designed one of the highest Green Star rated (6 star) buildings around, the Christchurch City Council Civic Building.

We have many firsts, including New Zealand's first NABERS whole-building rating, its highest NABERS rating, its first certified carbon-zero building and the first Green Star church, many of which have won awards.

When will you benefit by involving us?

At the outset of a new project

The importance of spatial planning on a site is often lost when it comes to services, and that can restrict your plant options. Large heat pumps and boilers really need to be considered at the planning approval stage, because planning authorities have a major influence on what can go where, and decisions made without that input can lead to major cost implications later in the project.

  • When you need objective, independent and expert advice on the options available
  • When the existing system requires a review
  • At any time where running costs are important
  • When there is an issue with existing plant that will need capital expenditure to repair or recondition it
  • At any time where maintenance costs are important
  • When major plant is nearing the end of its economic life
