Stephen Brinkman

Structural Technical Director

Stephen is TMCO's Structural Technical Director. He is a chartered structural engineer with over 35 years in structural design, assessment and construction supervision, and clients come to him for the problems that do not have a standard answer.

Seismic assessment and strengthening sits at the centre of what he does. He leads and reviews detailed assessments using non-linear time history analysis, then takes buildings through strengthening options and detailed design to an agreed target. He has done this on commercial towers, hospitals, a 1928 powerhouse, malls, wharves and transport structures.

A large part of the role is technical governance. Models, calculations and reports are sent to him for review before they leave the practice. He also runs safety in design workshops and fronts client presentations.

Alongside his New Zealand work he has practised in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Indonesia, the USA, Singapore and the Philippines. That work included towers up to 70 storeys, large mixed use developments and the peer review of a 149 storey building. Retail, residential, commercial, hospitality, health, heritage, industrial and civil infrastructure including bridges all sit in his record.

Registered Professional Engineer (Victoria), RPEQ, MIEAust, NER, CPEng. MEngSt (Earthquake Engineering).
